Scope Three systems, two 4 ft x 8 ft x 7 ft racks each, 200 sqft growing area per system
These hydroponics demo systems were designed and built for three First Nation communities in northern Saskatchewan. Each demo system provides 200 square feet of growing space over two racks. These will be used in each community to learn to grow leafy greens and herbs indoors - introducing an option for fresh and local items in places with inadequate access to fresh vegetables at reasonable prices. The systems will share space with fish tanks, and a bioreactor will break down byproducts from fish rearing and use them as fertilizer. Projects like this are a small, but important step towards improving food security in remote and northern regions. Each system features two racks, each with two levels of nutrient film technique channels and one level for deep water culture. They are equipped with automatic pH dosing, specialty LED grow lights, filters and generous aeration. WaterFarmers designed and prefabricated these systems locally before packing them up and shipping them to their final destinations of Muskoday First Nation, Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, and Mistawasis First Nation.
