Scope Pumping and treatment of irrigation water for 5,500 sqft grow room with 13 levels of vertically stacked production, 27,500 L of water storage
We built water treatment, nutrient dosing, and irrigation systems for Vision Greens, a commercial leafy greens vertical farm in the Niagara Region of Ontario. WaterFarmers designed these systems to integrate with Intravision Group and Elevate Farms advanced automated growing system. WaterFarmers was responsible for the layout of the space, installing the equipment and coordinating with other construction trades to ensure electrical and piping runs were done as required. The system is supplied with fresh water by two means - RO treated city water and filtered and UV treated condensate water from the HVAC units, this water fills a 3,000 gallon tank. A separate 2,000 gallon tank contains the irrigation water, which is automatically fed with fertilizer and pH adjusters from up to 6 separate barrels, and is topped off by the larger tank as required. Four variable frequency drive pumps move the nutrient-rich irrigation water at 240 L/min several hundred feet along the facility ceiling to eventually reach the plant sites in another room. Inside the growing room heavy duty effluent pumps were installed in sump pits to circulate the used irrigation water through filtration before returning to the irrigation tank. Safety barriers and spill containment to keep everything protected. Data collection and remote monitoring systems enable the facility operators to see flow rates, nutrient levels and tank levels in real time from their computer or phone, and be alerted if something needs their attention.
